The “Talking About My Generation” Festival, which was held for two days, at Gazi “Technopolis” multi-purpose venue of the city of Athens, on Saturday, November 14^th, and Sunday, November 15^th, 2009, was completed with great success.

Remaining true to its spirit, it managed to bring together young men and women, regardless of age, social background and political views, who exchanged opinions and experiences on issues relating to 2^nd generation migrants. At the same time, through a series of entertaining and educational activities, it managed to present -and also make people think about- the difficulties that young migrants face, within Greek society.

The contribution of eminent speakers from the academic world and from various NGOs to the dialogue that was developed, cannot be disregarded: the Director of the National Monitoring Center for Racism and Xenophobia, Mr Miltos Pavlou, the Co-ordinator of the “No To Racism From The Cradle” campaign, Ms Sonia Mitralia, the well-known actress and human rights activist in Turkey, Ms Derya Durmaz, along with representatives of NGOs, such as the Kenyan Community of Greece, the Immigration Union of Greece, the Albanian Youth Association, Medecins du Monde, “AMAKA” NGO, the United African Women Organization, the Migrants’ Place, the Bulgarian Voices “Rodina” and, finally, the Bella Ciao Grecia Collective.

Among a series of cultural, theatrical and music happenings, the photo exhibition “Identity” under the editorship of Giannis Kostaris and the interactive photo Exhibition “Scenes from Immigrants’ and Refugees’ lives” (Busy Building concept) by Amnesty International Greece, attracted most of people’s attention. Very interesting was also the theatre play with the title «Who Am I really and where Am I heading to?» by the theatre group of ANCE as well as the Documentary Projection “Bajo el mismo cielo/Under the same sky” based on the life of Immigrants in Spain by the Spanish NGO NEXES.

The 2^nd Generation immigrants participating in the festival shared also creative moments with the outdoor Graffiti Workshop with Fotis Zontas group. The closing of the Saturday’s workshops and projections was followed by the Latin rhythms of Apurimac and the African melodies and dance of Seli Kanou that kept the party spirit of the participants going.  On Sunday the place was flooded with people that came to watch the concerts of Giannis Haroulis , Haig Yazdjian and the “Percussion stories” with Vassilis Vassilatos.

ANCE NGO invites you to the 2-days international festival “talking about MY GENERATION” on the 14^th and 15^th November 2009 at “Technopolis” of the City of Athens, Gazi.

The festival aims at raising public awareness regarding the problems of the 2^nd generation immigrants in Greece and in Europe as well as at offering the opportunity to young 2^nd G immigrants to express themselves through art, get to know each other and become active citizens.

Two days full of concerts, projections, exhibitions, art workshops, theatre and open discussions with the participation of non governmental organizations from Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Romania, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan.

The festival is being organized by the support of “Technopolis” of the City of Athens in the framework of the initiative “2^nd generation immigrants: Citizens without rights” that is being implemented by ANCE NGO thanks to the funding of the European Union (Youth in Action Program) and Anna Lindh Foundation for the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue.

Participatory Video Workshop

What can actually determine the growth of democracy and justice in the global society is not the technical ability of new medias of reaching each and every corner of the world, but the spread of skills and possibilities of using the communicative resources offered by the new medias: from a global passive audience to a plural society of conscious narrators.

“Sights2” is a workshop for young people of second generation, or rather of the new generations of Italians (“generations2” suggests new potentials) that, through the techniques of participatory video, build a self-narration on topics of cultural identity and diversity.

The first part of the project consists in meetings, practical activities and experiments of creative writing during which the youths will learn different techniques and poetics of narrating through images. Then they will be accompanied in the production of a short audio-visual product, entirely written and directed by them.

Through the local distribution of the video, new spaces of dialogue with other young people will open, during which this experience will be shared in the hope of building a network that works on these topics.

ANCE aims to start an intercultural dialogue emerging from participants’ personal experiences and to create communication channels using art as a tool for expression. Workshops will take place weekly, starting from 3rd of September 2009 at 19:00, at the premises of ANCE NGO (15a Miaouli Str., Psiri (Monastiraki metro station). Participation is free of charge.
